How Does FEP Processing Molding?

FEP can use extrusion, injection, hot pressing, transfer molding and other molding processes to produce a variety of shapes of products, the use of more molding process is extrusion and injection molding. 

FEP begins to melt at about 265 degrees centigrade, but the extrusion temperature is generally greater than 315 degrees centigrade. Even at such high temperatures, melt viscosity is 10 times higher than that of other thermoplastics. Because of the high melt viscosity of FEP, the extrusion speed is generally controlled in a low range to prevent the surface of the product from producing unevenness, usually only below 1/10 of other thermoplastics. As the extrusion speed is limited, the plasticizing degree of extrusion material is very sufficient. Generally, it is not necessary to use too large extruder, and the extruder with diameter of 50mm can be processed into FEP products of various sizes. In addition, because the FEP in molten state is corrosive to most metals, all parts contacting FEP melt must be chrome plated or stainless steel. FEP injection molding pressure is generally controlled in the range of 35-140MPa, the mold temperature is 205-235, the barrel temperature is 330, 400 degrees, and the nozzle temperature is 400 degrees. When FEP bar is injected, the gate with the corresponding diameter should be selected for different diameters. 

The screw structure of FEP injection molding machine adopts isometric unequal depth screw. The compression ratio of the depth of the screw groove and the depth of the spiral groove in the metering section is 3:1. The whole screw is divided into feeding section, transition section (compression section) and metering section. The length of the feeding section is 60% of the length of the whole screw, the length of the transition section is 7.5%, and the rest is the length of the metering section. The residual FEP material in the injection machine can be cleaned with polyacrylate resin. The molding process of poly (ethylene propylene glycol) FEP is carried into the mold heated to 315-375 degrees centigrade, then cooled to 150-205 DEG C and pressurized for 0.7 ~ 7MPa, the melt filling cavity and compaction are limited, and then the mold is released. Silicone oil is used as the release agent in the molding process.
